HONEYWELL AIR TOUCH I9 detailed analysis

Honeywell is a well-known brand of air purifiers in the Indian market, which offers a range of devices that cover almost all price ranges. In its middle price range put the Honeywell Air Touch i9 air purifier that we tested. While most air purifier manufacturers try to incorporate as many features as possible into their air purifiers, Honeywell has tried to keep things simple by only including the necessary features. So much so that the Air Touch i9 is not even equipped with IoT compatibility or application support. However, it has an “intelligent technology” that the company claims can more than make up for IOT intelligence that has not been found. CONSTRUCTION AND DESIGN

The first thing you’ll notice about the Honeywell Air Touch i9 is how lightweight it is. Although some of the previously tested air purifiers were bulky, the Air Touch i9 is quite light and easy to transport and install. Although this usually involves compromises in the robustness and build quality of the device, Honeywell has managed to strike a balance between both with this air purifier. It does not exude superior quality, but it is not too poor. The device has a case design similar to what we observed in the Blueair Classic 280i.

The Honeywell Air Touch i9 draws in air from the two mesh ventilation holes on the sides and underneath and expels purified air from above. Although it is not a very innovative design, it usually works well as long as the air purifier maintains good air circulation. There is a slight angle to which Clean Air is directed from the outlet opening at the top, which ensures that air is ejected away from the device. This is to ensure that no bubbles of Clean Air form around the air purifier,and the company recommends keeping the device 30 cm away from the wall to maintain good airflow.

The Honeywell Air Touch i9 prefilter is made of fiberglass. Its main function is to prevent larger particles from entering the device and suffocating subsequent filters. In principle, this ensures an extended life of the HEPA filter. The pre-filter captures particles larger than PM10, which can be detected with the naked eye. These include large particles of dust, which are clearly visible when accumulating, fibers, hair and animal hair.

Next comes the two-in-one filter set, which combines the normal HEPA filter with a hisiv filter (carbon filter). The filter used here is class H-12, which is lower than the H-13 filter class that you will find in most household air purifiers. There is not a very big difference in the air filtration efficiency of an h-12 and h-13 filter, because h-12 HEPA filters are certified to retain 99.5% of particles in continuous air, while an H-13 can retain 99.95% of particles. However, due to its design, an H-12 filter is less dense than an H-13 filter and therefore absorbs fewer particles over time, which means a shorter service life and requires a relatively faster replacement.

There is therefore a compromise between filter life, filter quality and thus replacement costs. If you buy an air purifier with an H-14 filter, it can last longer, and although it cleans the air better, it is more expensive to replace it compared to an h-13 filter. For example, if you are in certain areas of Delhi, Chennai or Bengaluru, where the air quality is generally very poor or very bad, the filter will pick up more particles and consume more quickly.
